The cases highlighting tragic truth

The five cases of death by suicide heard at Offaly Coroner's Court in Tullamore yesterday were:

1 A 50-year-old married father from Tullamore went to field near his home with a legally held shotgun on February 1, 2010, and shot himself three times -- twice in the abdomen and once in the head.

He was suffering from depression.

2 A 35-year old single man, who had a drug dependency and was suffering from depression, hanged himself in the garage behind his home on April 17, 2010.

3 On May 30, 2010, a 38-year-old single man hanged himself from a tree in his back garden. He also had a history of depression and his mother said he had tried to kill himself before.

4 A man in his mid-50s hanged himself in a shed behind his home on July 1, 2010. He lived alone.

5 A 32-year-old married man from Clonaslee went to a local wood on July 19, 2010, and hanged himself there.
