THE good weather is set to continue with temperatures expected to rise in the run-up to the bank holiday weekend.

Temperatures are forecast to reach 18C on Friday and could even hit 20C on Sunday.

Met Eireann forecaster John Eagleton said: "Between now and Friday, there is still a bit of good weather. Thursday might be cloudier, with some bits of rain. But Saturday will be a good day, and even a lot of Sunday looks good.

"Saturday looks like the warmest day as it could get up to 20 degrees, but it drops back to 15 or 18 degrees on Sunday and 15 or 16 on Monday," he added.

According to Mr Eagleton, the warm June bank holiday weekend last year was the start of the summer and although this is not a definitive sign of things to come, "you can often get two good summers together".

The blue skies and warm sun will arrive just in time for the scores of festivals taking place around the country this weekend.

This is all good news for those in the tourism industry, as research from online travel agents Expedia shows that holiday bookings here for the end of this month have doubled in comparison to last year.
