A TEENAGE girl has died from the injuries she sustained after she fell from her horse while taking part in a hunt.

Patricia Lynch (17) from Newmarket-on-Fergus, Co Clare, died in hospital in the early hours of yesterday morning with her family at her bedside.

She was critically injured on Sunday after she fell from a horse while attempting to traverse a low wall in Crusheen, Co Clare.

A keen rider, she was participating in the weekly 'Turkey Trotters' hunt when the accident happened. While waiting for the ambulance, the injured teen -- who was wearing a helmet and safety protector -- was treated by other members of the hunt and then transferred to University Hospital Galway.

A Leaving Certificate student at St Flannan's College, Patricia was the youngest daughter of Pat and Ida Lynch. The family from the Latoon area of Newmarket-on-Fergus are well known throughout the area and the death has been described as a "complete tragedy".

"She was out doing what she loved. It is a terrible thing," a close friend said last night.
