A DUBLIN teenager has been shot in the leg in a targeted gun attack in Ballyfermot overnight.

The 19-year-old, who lives locally, was gunned down on Le Fanu Drive shortly after 10pm last night.

Locals reported hearing a number of shots being fired before the injured man struggled to a nearby house to seek protection and help.

He was taken by ambulance to St James's Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries which are described as not life threatening.

This morning a team of gardai and members of the garda technical bureau searched the scene at the junction of Le Fanu Road and Le Fanu Drive for evidence.

They combed a green space and carried out house to house enquiries as their investigation into the shooting got underway.

The scene, which is near the railway bridge, was preserved during the examination.

No arrests have yet been made.

The young man who was shot is known to Gardai but has not been questioned about and serious offences.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ballyfermot Garda Station 01-06667200 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
