A TEENAGER has died in an horrific car crash in Co Donegal today.

Gardai in Ballybofey say the 18-year-old died after the 3.30am smash on the Glenfin Road.

The victim, named locally as Shane Brolly, from Convoy, was in a car with two other men and a teenage girl.

A female driver in her 40s in a second vehicle was also injured in the crash.

All five people were taken to Letterkenny General Hospital where Mr Brolly was later pronounced dead.

The injuries of the others injured in the crash are described as non life threatening.
The road was closed today for a Forensic collision examination and diversions were put in place.

Donegal Traffic Corps Inspector Michael Harrison today appealed for witnesses to come forward.

He said the incident happened a few hundred metres past the entrance to Jackson’s Hotel in Ballybofey and there were a number of other vehicles in the area at the time.

“A number of witnesses have come forward but we believe there were other vehicles including minibuses in the area around the time of this incident,” said Inspector Harrison.

"We would urge anyone who was in the area to come forward."

Witnesses to the collision or anyone who was on the Ballybofey to Glenfin Rd between 3.20am and 3.45am on the 24th are asked to contact Ballybofey on 074 9137740, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
