THE teenage victim of an abduction and savage beating has told gardai he did not know why he had been singled out.

Four men, armed with batons, kidnapped 18-year-old Daryl Doherty near his home in west Dublin shortly after 7pm on Sunday.

Two men ran towards him as he stood outside his front door at Cherry Orchard Court in Ballyfermot.

He was grabbed by the arms and bundled into a dark-coloured car where two other men were waiting. His head was covered while the gang drove to the Military Road in the Phoenix Park where he was attacked with the batons and struck several times on the head and body.

He was then stripped of his trousers, socks and shoes and dumped on the side of the road as his attackers made their getaway in the car.

The young victim was taken to St James's hospital where he was treated for his injuries, which were later described as minor.

Last night gardai were trying to establish a motive for the attack.
