Teenager charged with attack on Irishman in Australia
A TEENAGER has been charged in connection with an attack in Canberra, Australia, that left an Irishman fighting for his life.
Local youth Daniel Byrne, 18, is accused of causing grievous bodily harm in an assault at around 5.30am last Sunday.
He was refused bail and is due in court again on Friday.
Timothy McCarthy, 41, from Spa, Co Kerry, was struck in the face and left unconscious outside a nightclub.
The attack resulted in a severe brain haemorrhage and Mr McCarthy was immediately taken for emergency surgery at Canberra Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
