Teenage pedestrian seriously injured in collision with van

A TEENAGER has been rushed to Cork University Hospital (CUH) with serious injuries following a collision.

The accident occurred around at 7.30am outside Donoughmore in mid Cork between Firmount and Ballyvodane Cross.

The accident involved a male pedestrian aged in his late teens and a van.

After the collision the teen was taken to CUH where his condition is understood to be serious.

The driver of the van, a man in his 30s, was not injured.

However, he was treated at the scene for shock.

Macroom Gardai advised motorists to avoid the area with diversions now in place.

The stretch of roadway involved is currently being examined by Garda accident scene investigators.

Gardai have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them at Macroom Garda Station at (026) 20590 or the Garda Confidential Line on (1800) 666111.
