Detectives are appealing for information following the report of an assault in Co Antrim at 9.50pm last night.

It is reported that four unknown males, three of which were armed with baseball bats or metal bars, entered a residential property and attacked the 19-year-old male householder.

The man sustained injuries to both legs and was taken to hospital by ambulance.

His injuries are not thought to be life threatening at this time.

The assault reportedly occured in the Queens Avenue area of Newtownabbey, Co Antrim.

Detective Constable Jennifer Torrance said: "Police would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this assault to contact police at Antrim on the non-emergency number 101.

"Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."
