A teenager and a 31-year-old man were arrested after gardaí seized an automatic firearm at a Dublin house.

The gun was discovered during an operation at Elmcastle Park estate in Tallaght, Co Dublin, by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau targeting organised criminality.

A man (31) and a teenage boy (17) were arrested at the scene.

They are currently being detained at Tallaght garda station.

It is understood the older suspect is originally from Duleek, Co Meath.

In a statement, Assistant Commissioner John O'Driscoll said: "For the purpose of tackling crime, An Garda Síochána is determined to remove firearms that have the capacity to kill from our streets and to identify those who we suspect are willing to use them."
