Fine Gael TDs and their children indulged in ice cream and marshmallows as they sought to create awareness for the affordable childcare scheme in Merrion Square, Dublin.

Alan Farrell, Marcella Corcoran Kennedy, Josepha Madigan and Ciarán Cannon were among the TDs on hand to urge parents to visit affordablechildcare.ie to check their entitlements.

The new Single Affordable Childcare Scheme was announced in Budget 2017.

It replaces previous subsidy schemes for working parents and they would be able to avail of subsidies of up to €1,000 a year.

Ms Corcoran Kennedy said it was "a wonderful opportunity for parents" to see what the various examples are and what their entitlements are.

"It's giving people an opportunity to avail of work and education opportunities," she said.
