TD refuses to apologise for calling official 'a disgrace'
THE Fianna Fail TD who called Department of Health secretary general Ambrose McLoughlin a "disgrace" revealed the two men have since met for coffee -- but he did not apologise and has no plans to do so.
Sean Fleming told the Irish Independent he met with Dr McLoughlin last Thursday on the invitation of the secretary general's officials.
"We had coffee and agreed he has an important job to do and I have an important job to do. We agreed to move on. There is no personal angst between us.
"Under no circumstances will I apologise. Somebody in the Government side said I should do so, but there is no prospect of that. The decibels may have been high but the content of what I said stands."
Mr Fleming shouted at Dr McLoughlin earlier this month: "You are a disgrace. You are a disgrace as a public official. You are chairman of the board of the HSE and not fit for office."
He delivered the outburst before storming out of a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee where Dr McLoughlin was appearing along with HSE chief Tony O'Brien.
