TD left 'shaking' after threats from pro-lifers

A FINE GAEL TD was left "shaking" after being threatened by people distributing anti-abortion leaflets personally targeted at her and has lodged a complaint with the gardai.

Regina Doherty ( right) received verbal threats and felt "intimidated" after confronting the two men who were dropping the leaflets door-to-door at a number of estates near her home in Ratoath, Co Meath.

Ms Doherty has made a formal complaint to Ashbourne gardai, as have a number of local residents who were shocked at the images on the leaflets.

The leaflet – containing images of a late-term aborted foetus and the Holocaust, alongside the TD's phone number – was sealed in a white envelope which said, 'adults only'.

However, a number of children opened the envelopes and were affected by the images, Ms Doherty said.

"One of the men was obnoxious and aggressive and put his face right up to mine. I asked him: 'Are you threatening me?' and he screamed: 'Damn right I am'."

"He told me he was working for God but I never met two more unchristian men in my life. They were mad loonies.

"I rang the gardai and was initially shaking and feeling very intimidated but now I'm just boiling and very annoyed."

Ms Doherty has also received death threats.
