Taoiseach remains in Dail bar during fire alert
WHAT right-thinking man would abandon his lunch just because a few flames threatened his safety? Not Taoiseach Enda Kenny anyway.
After braving the workaday plebs last week to lunch in a coffee bar opposite Government Buildings, Mr Kenny held his station this week while lunching in the midst of a fire alert.
The Taoiseach was one of around 20 TDs and senators who sat undisturbed in the safety of the Dail members' bar as the Leinster House complex was evacuated on Wednesday.
So while 'Rome' (almost) burned, the politicians relaxed, impervious to the danger they were in.
Regular staff spilled out on to the plinth and Leinster Lawn – but the fire never came.
An errant toaster in the bar was thought to be to blame, but the culprit was, in fact, steam from a dishwasher in the creche in Kildare House, an office block across the road.
