Tanaiste Joan Burton leaves Jobstown 'slowly' following protesters' blockade

Gardai attended the protest which saw the minister blocked from leaving a community centre in Jobstown, Tallaght.

More gardai were called to the scene as the protest escalated. The Public Order Unit were also called in briefly.

The protest started at midday - Ms Burton was still at the location some two hours later.

Pictures have been posted on social media which show a car surrounded by protesters.

Ms Burton was believed to be in the car.

Later, the Public Order Unit arrived at the scene.

However, following negotiations between local representatives and gardai, Ms Burton was allowed leave while protesters marched ahead of her vehicle. The Public Order Unit subsequently stood aside. A source told Independent.ie that the protest was peaceful and no arrests were made.

Some time later, pictures of a separate protest emerged on social media showing more than a hundred people marching on Tallaght by-pass.

Gardai say no arrests have been made.
