ROY Keane helped make for a very topical paper which had the theme of Interesting People, as did Pakistani teenager Malala Yousafzai, inset, who was shot by the Taliban, with an extract from her book 'I am Malala' featuring.

Ollie Power of Deansrath Community College, Clondalkin and the TUI said an extract from the soccer hero's autobiography would have been a theme familiar to students and "the text was not difficult".

Fintan O'Mahony of Scoil Mhuire, Greenhill, Carrick on Suir, Co Tipperary and the ASTI really liked the texts on Roy and Malala but said the third comprehension, an extract from a novel by Patrick de Witt set in the Californian gold rush in 1850s, was not as accessible.

The verdict of Jim Lusby of the Institute of Education was: "overall, a lovely paper".

He described the range and quality of comprehension texts as impressive while "the accompanying questions provided a perfect platform for students to perform well".
