Tabloid recycles bulbs

This week, The Sun led its Budget coverage with a picture of Brian Lenihan in a lightbulb and the headline: "Would the last person leaving Ireland turn out the lights."

Eighteen years ago, the paper carried a remarkably similar election front page featuring Labour Leader Neil Kinnock:

"If Kinnock wins today, will the last person to leave Britain please turn out the lights."

Times may be hard for the Greens, but they will pleased to note that someone is supporting recycling.

Two years ago, when we were going through the Great Crash Part 1 and Iceland was bankrupt, the common joke was:

"What's the difference between Ireland and Iceland?"

The answer was: "One letter and about six months."

Now, Iceland has come out of recession, we are even more banjaxed, and the joke has changed.

"What's the difference between Ireland and Iceland?"

Answer: "One letter, 1 per cent growth -- and they have warmer weather."
