Sweet music from Streep and Kennedy

She's just captured a coveted Golden Globe for her part in the movie Julie and Julia but Hollywood star Meryl Streep can also belt out a few verses of Raglan Road when called on to do her party piece.

At a dinner in the Manhattan townhouse of Loretta Brennan Glucksman, Streep joined Irish singer Brian Kennedy in an impromptu performance of the Patrick Kavanagh classic.

The occasion was a fundraising dinner hosted by actor Liam Neeson in aid of Belfast's Lyric Theatre, of which he is a patron.

Both Neeson, who comes from Ballymena, and Brian Kennedy, who is originally from Belfast, have the Lyric as a pet project.

Brian Kennedy is now set to receive a Lifetime Achievement award at the Meteor Ireland Music Awards in the RDS on February 19 in recognition of his contribution to the industry over the last 20 years.

The award ceremony will feature a special performance by Brian Kennedy, who will be accompanied by the Dublin Gospel Choir.
