A suspicious device found near a bus stop in a South Dublin suburb was a "very elaborate hoax".

Reports of the ‘suspicious package’ were made to gardai at approximately 3.30pm.

Gardai and members of the bomb disposal unit rushed to the scene at Harold's Cross and inspected the package.

The section of road from the bridge on Parnell Road in Harold’s Cross, right up to Mount Argus cemetery was  sealed off.

Upon examination, it was declared the device was a hoax and the road was re-opened again.
