Suspects held after €1.8m drugs swoop

Gardai have intercepted a €1.8m shipment of drugs as it was being ferried out of Dublin to south Leinster.

Officers swooped on the suspects as the drugs were being handed over at Castlewarden, near Kill, Co Kildare.

The armed detectives moved in on their targets yesterday afternoon after a surveillance operation.

They seized 30kg of herbal cannabis and in a follow-up search recovered another 60kg in Tallaght.

Officers arrested two men from Carlow and one from Firhouse, Tallaght.

Meanwhile, Revenue officers seized more than 3kg of cocaine, with a street value of €225,000.

The drugs were found when officers stopped and searched a 50-year-old woman from Trinidad after she arrived at Dublin Airport from Spain.
