Suspect's father avoiding the spotlight
THE father of terror suspect Samantha Lewthwaite has refused to be drawn on speculation she is behind a massacre in a Kenyan shopping centre.
Kenyan authorities believe Lewthwaite, who was married to the London July 7 suicide bomber Jermaine Lindsay, was one of the masterminds behind the atrocity, which has claimed more than 60 lives.
The 29-year-old mother-of-three is the daughter of English soldier Andy Lewthwaite, who met and married Co Down woman Christine Allen, while serving in Northern Ireland during the 1970s. Yesterday, Mr Lewthwaite declined to comment on the reports his daughter orchestrated the attack.
She is said to be a high-ranking member of Islamic terror group al-Shabaab, who carried out the atrocity, and witnesses who fled the bloodbath said a white woman appeared to be in charge of the terrorists.
A weary-sounding Mr Lewthwaite – who runs a construction company in the area – said he didn't want to speak publicly about his daughter at this time.
He spent yesterday inside his Buckinghamshire home, where dozens of journalists had gathered.
