A man in his 40s has been arrested in connection with the murder of Hutch associate Noel 'Kingsize' Duggan.

He was being held last night under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Ashbourne garda station.

Mr Duggan (57), a married father of three, was gunned down as he sat in his car outside his home at The Old Mill housing estate in Ratoath, Co Meath, on March 23.

He was a close associate of Dublin gangland figure Gerry 'The Monk' Hutch.

His killing is believed to be the fourth murder here connected to the gangland feud between members of the Christy Kinahan drug cartel and associates of Gary Hutch, the late nephew of Gerry Hutch, who was murdered in Spain last year.

Mr Duggan was not regarded as a major player in the drug or gangland scene. However, gardaí believe he was a "soft target", like Eddie Hutch Sr - the older brother of Gerry Hutch - who was also gunned down near his home in Dublin's north inner city on February 8.

It's believed Mr Duggan's and Mr Hutch's murders were in retaliation for the Regency Hotel shooting of David Byrne in Dublin on February 5.

The Dublin criminal was killed when a six-man hit squad stormed the popular airport-area hotel during a weigh-in for a boxing event that was due to take place there.

It is believed the intended target was the son of Christy Kinahan, Daniel Kinahan, who was attending the event but fled during the shooting.
