A COURT was told yesterday that one of four men jointly charged with drugs offences couldn't attend because he is on a deep-sea fishing trawler off Australia.
Donegal-born fisherman Conal MacGrianna (22), of Sandringham Drive in Derry, is charged along with his co-defendants of possessing cannabis resin with intent to supply it on April 15, 2010.
Counsel for Mr MacGrianna told Derry district judge Barney McElholm that her client had contacted her two days ago using the trawler's satellite phone to inform her he wouldn't be able to attend court until May 11.
The judge said if the defendant failed to return to Ireland within one week of arriving in port in Australia, he would then issue a warrant for his arrest.
Meanwhile, the three co-defendants were all returned for trial to the crown court in Derry on May 4.
