President Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabina invited representatives from the Christine Buckley Centre to Áras an Uachtaráin to mark 10 years since the Ryan Report.

Mr Higgins said the event was to honour anniversaries of two important dates, which outlined "responses to the hurt and trauma that was inflicted on so many of you by the neglect and failures of the Irish State".

This was the apology read out by then Taoiseach Bertie Ahern on behalf of the Irish State 20 years ago this month for those who had suffered at the hands of institutions, and the publication of the Ryan Report, which followed on from the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse.
