Sunbathers left 'shocked' after brawl breaks out in popular park Newsdesk

A man and a teenage girl have been arrested following reports of an altercation in the Botanic Gardens area of south Belfast on Thursday afternoon.

Shortly before 4pm police received reports of assaults in the area.

The PSNI attended the scene and arrested a 25-year old-man on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

A 17-year-old female was also arrested on suspicion of common assault.

Both are currently in custody helping police with their enquiries. Police have appealed for witnesses.

Sergeant King said: "We are aware that there may have been other assaults in the area today and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with footage to contact 101 quoting reference 790 of 04/05/2017.

"Or, alternatively if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
