Sun shines brightly for celebration of Africa
AFRICAN and Irish rhythms rang out across a sunshine-lit garden in the heart of the capital yesterday as thousands gathered for Africa Day.
Among the diverse musicians performing in Iveagh Gardens, off Harcourt Street, Dublin, were Republic of Loose, Malian singer Vieux Farka Toure, Cathy Davey, Paddy Casey and the Discovery Gospel Choir.
Thousands flocked to the free festival-like event hosted by Irish Aid, where an African bazaar, a mock village wedding, dancing, a traditional coffee-making ceremony and drumming demonstrations got underway.
