Summit's cross now a frozen work of wonder
ICE crystals cling to a Celtic cross in an amazing display of nature's power and beauty.
Amateur climbers who scaled Galtymore Mountain on the Limerick-Tipperary border found the cross at the summit frozen solid and looking like a sculpted icy artwork.
Limerick men Brian Mulcahy and Derek Johnson climbed the 3,000 ft mountain in just under two hours.
Referring to the frozen cross and to the climb itself, Mr Mulcahy said: "It's unreal, isn't it? You couldn't see maybe 20 yards in front of you the whole way up. It was fairly cloud-covered and bitterly cold."
