FORMER GAA and Aussie rules star Jim Stynes is to be honoured with an award from President Michael D Higgins.
The first recipients of the Presidential Distinguished Service Award for the Irish Abroad will be announced later today.
Mr Stynes, who died earlier this year, will be one of the first of 10 to be honoured.
Also included in the list will be philanthropists Loretta Glucksman and Chuck Feeney. The first 10 to be get the award were agreed by Cabinet yesterday.
The awards were one of the commitments that came out of the Global Irish Economic Forum.
