Students tune up for orchestral performance
IRELAND'S top music students tuned up their instruments at the National Concert Hall yesterday, ahead of tomorrow night's special performance with the RTE National Symphony Orchestra.
Five young men and four women -- ranging in age from 20 to 23 -- will get the chance to showcase their talents when they perform alongside the orchestra as part of the RTE's new mentoring scheme for advanced young musicians.
The aspiring young musicians will perform works from Bartok and Respighi when they join the strings, woodwind, brass and percussion sections at the concert hall.
They hail from across the country and were selected after a series of auditions.
The students are undertaking advanced music studies at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin, and the Cork School of Music.
