Students raise cash by pulling together

Blisters and aching muscles are just some of the occupational hazards facing students from Dublin's Belvedere College taking part in the school's 25th annual Block Pull for charity.

Fifth-year students Johnny Byrne and Mark Kelly were among 60 students from the college who arrived in Portarlington, Co Laois, yesterday to raise funds for the Temple Street Children's Hospital, the Irish Guide Dogs Association and the St Francis Hospice.

The students have been averaging 35km a day as they make their way to their final stop in Galway on Sunday. They hope to raise €100,000 as they "sleep rough" and take refuge in local GAA clubs along the way.
