Students add another string to their bows at proms

A GROUP of musicians have seen their talents blossom over the summer thanks to the help of some professional mentors.

Following a week of intense rehearsals under principal conductor of the RTE National Symphony Orchestra, Alan Buribayev, the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland (NYOI) is preparing to hit the road for three unique concerts. The special summer proms series will see them perform in Co Waterford (July 20), City Hall, Cork, (July 21) and the National Concert Hall, Dublin (July 22).

The concerts will feature NYOI alumni, Jean and Fiona Kelly, who will perform with the young musicians as soloists in Mozart's flute & harp concerto.

Also on the programme is Shostakovich Symphony No 10.

Tickets cost €15 or €10 for those with student cards, pensioners and the unemployed.
