Strike looms as Dublin Bus staff vote over cuts
DRIVERS at Dublin Bus are due to begin balloting for strike action after rejecting proposals to cut pay – raising the prospect of commuter chaos in the capital.
Trade union SIPTU expects more than 1,200 drivers in Dublin Bus will have finished voting by the end of next week.
SIPTU organiser John Murphy said nine out of 10 members at Dublin Bus had rejected proposed cuts to pay and changes to their conditions of employment.
Mr Murphy said drivers felt they "just cannot afford a further reduction".
He said that any strike action would only be put into play in the event that management attempted to put in place the pay cuts recommended by the Labour Court.
