INDEPENDENT TD Finian McGrath has been forced to pull out of a charity dance performance after sustaining an injury during rehearsal.

Mr McGrath suffered a torn ligament while practising the up-tempo Charleston on Saturday.

The Dublin North Central TD is one of the politicians scheduled to take part in a dance competition in aid of breast cancer next month.

He told the Irish Independent he felt a cramp after trying a leg flip before falling to the ground in pain.

"I tore my ligaments during practice on Saturday and I'm now hobbling along on a crutch," he said.

"I'm particularly gutted for my dance partner Catherine McCutcheon. I was really looking forward to the event which is being run for such a good cause," he added.

Mr McGrath issued an appeal to any males who can perform the Charleston to contact him.

Strictly Against Breast Cancer takes place in Dublin's Convention Centre on December 7.
