THOUSANDS of homes and businesses around the country have no power after winds and snow accumulations on electricity lines caused outages.

The east coast was worst affected from Dundalk down to Wexford and Waterford and also Cork on the South coast, and inland as far as Navan and Kildare, although there are also outages in Galway and Dingle on the western seaboard and in Donegal.

While the blizzard conditions have abated it is hoped no more power lines will be affected, but the challenge for repair crews now is gaining access to the faults that exist on the system.
