GARDA management are organising hotels for gardai based in the capital and have advised officers to prepare for the possibility of working lengthy shifts as part of preparations for The Beast from the East.

A number of directives have been forwarded to gardai stationed in a number of Dublin stations including the city centre and west Dublin.

Gardaí have been told to prepare a change of clothes "in the event they cannot get home and are required to work".

Management are now also in the process of securing hotels across the city to ensure that gardai can be accommodated in the event they are stuck in their place of work as a result of the storm.

Equipment including winter chains for vehicles and snow socks are also being provided over the coming days.

One directive issued to officers based in a city centre garda station on behalf of the Superintendent said: "Please advise all members to prepare a bag with a change of clothes etc; in the event that they cannot get home and are required to work

"Accommodation is currently being identified should the need for same arise.

"Please also be aware that a stock of snow socks/chains for patrol vehicles are currently being secured."
