Gardaí are investigating a 'ram raid' on a petrol station in north Dublin in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The brazen robbery happened at the Maxol station on Hearse Road in Donabate at around 1am.

A grey BMW car, which had earlier been stolen, was used to ram the garage's metal shutters.

The raiders then entered the shop and stole a quantity of cigarettes.

It is understood no money or other goods were taken in the robbery.

Untouched

An ATM machine inside the shop also appears to have been left untouched by the raiders.

The scene was sealed off for a forensic examination by members of the Garda Technical Bureau.

Shattered glass littered the floor of the shop and the forecourt, and it was clear that the shutters had been forced out of their tracks.

Gardaí are examining CCTV footage from the forecourt, the shop and the surrounding area. In addition, they are studying traffic cameras as part of their investigations into the robbery.
