Stars band together to help Dignam's cancer battle
A HOST of Irish musicians will band together for a one-off concert for Aslan frontman Christy Dignam, writes Laura Butler.
The singer returned home on Monday after 10 weeks in Dublin's Beaumont Hospital, where he underwent intensive chemotherapy for blood cancer. He is hoping to be fighting fit in six weeks to attend the gig.
Some of the country's best-known musicians, including Paul Brady, Westlife's Mark Feehily, The Coronas' frontman Danny O'Reilly, Bressie, Horslips and Mary Black, will unite on June 21 at the Olympia Theatre. All proceeds will go towards 52-year-old Dignam's ongoing medical bills.
"Christy was in hospital for over two months and he wasn't in a general ward, so that was very expensive," band member Billy McGuinness told the Irish Independent.
McGuinness said that the support from fellow acts had been "phenomenal".
