Two prisoners who climbed onto a roof at Mountjoy Prison remained on the rooftop for more than three hours tonight.

A stand-off was ended when prison staff trained in negotiation techniques succeeded in bringing the prisoners off the roof.

The two inmates gained access to the roof around 6.30pm at the Dublin prison.

The situation was resolved peacefully at 10pm.

No prison staff nor the prisoners themselves were injured during the incident, said a Prison Service spokesman late tonight.

An investigation will take place in relation to the incident
