Stab victim's family are 'struggling with death'
THE family of a murdered man is struggling to come to terms with the circumstances of his death, a priest said yesterday.
Martin Purcell's family and friends consoled each other at his funeral in Limerick city yesterday morning.
The retired Eircom worker (54) was stabbed to death in his Wickham Street apartment in Limerick city last week.
Fr Eamon Purcell told the congregation at St Brigid's Church that the victim's life had been cut cruelly short.
Mr Purcell, the priest said, was a sports fan who loved music and outdoor activities.
Fr Purcell -- no relation to the deceased -- said Martin had much more to give in life.
"But all expectations for the future have been cruelly cut short," he said.
The priest said his death had shocked everyone.
Fr Purcell said: "Martin's family is devastated in their grief and naturally have many questions but so few answers."
A separated father of two, Mr Purcell previously worked for An Post and Eircom.
