Mary Davis has acquired the "Special K" nickname due to the red dress she wears in her campaign posters. So guess which cereal manufacturer sent her a hamper yesterday? There was apparently enough boxes of Special K -- plus a few snack bars -- to feed her campaign team for a while.
But ever conscious of the value of a noble gesture, Mary is donating the hamper to the Focus Ireland charity.
Head for heights
Hollywood star Tom Cruise is rumoured to use lifts in his shoes to maximise his 5ft 7in height. As many viewers noticed, Labour's Michael D Higgins also got some "height for hire" during the TV3 presidential debate by standing on a box.
But it was not a case of him arriving in the studio and making Hollywood star-type demands. His campaign team reassured us that he was simply offered the facility by TV3 and decided to accept it.
Stranger in midst
Presidential candidates may notice a figure hanging around at some of their launches -- who is slightly apart from the media pack. They should not be too alarmed to learn that he is an author of crime books -- and also worked before for Fianna Fail.
Former journalist Tom Reddy is working on a book about the Irish presidential campaign -- having previously served as a Fianna Fail press officer and worked on Mary McAleese's successful 1997 campaign.
But much more interestingly, he wrote 'Murder will Out' about famous Irish murder cases and worked on the book to accompany RTE's 'Thou Shalt Not Kill' murder series.
