200 drivers were arrested for drink driving over the October bank holiday weekend.

According to the official An Garda Síochána Twitter page, 200 drink drivers were arrested between October 27 and 31.

They also tweeted "Drink Drivers - Reckless, selfish drivers putting themselves & other road users at risk. Never Drink & Drive!"

This comes after Transport Minister Shane Ross, said that road deaths on Irish roads "is very close to a crisis situation".

Gardai and the Road Safety Authority launched a joint campaign last week, urging drivers to act more responsibly on the roads over the bank holiday weekend.
