Soiled nappies sent to TDs in dirty protest
MINISTERS are being sent soiled nappies in the post to Leinster House in a new form of dirty protest.
However, the packages are not reaching their intended recipients as they are being intercepted by the security scanners in the Oireachtas.
The packages – addressed to ministers – containing the nappies are dumped in the bin, rather than being opened or passed to the ministers' offices.
In an upsurge of the practice, which started in the last fortnight, 10 nappies arrived yesterday alone. It is not clear why the nappies are being sent at this time, whether it is a protest at abortion legislation or cutbacks policies.
"It's not a problem. We're not getting too bothered by it. The system filters it out," a Leinster House source said.
It's also unclear whether the packages are being sent by a number of individuals or just one repeat offender.
