Soap star has Queen fans in a lather

CURLY Watts is back -- only this time he's scarcely recognisable.

TV actor Kevin Kennedy -- who played Curly in the long- running soap -- now has a starring role in the worldwide smash musical 'We Will Rock You', which opens at Dublin's O2 arena tonight.

Kennedy plays 'Pop' -- a librarian who is stuck in his 'hippie' past and is searching to find answers to the end of rock music.

The show arrives in Dublin after a tour of five British cities -- Manchester, Sunderland, Birmingham, Bristol and Edinburgh.

The musical by Queen and Ben Elton will be on every night until the end of the month.

The cast of the touring production includes 'X Factor' star Brenda Edwards, who plays the domineering role of 'Killer Queen' -- the head of Globalsoft -- the corporation responsible for the banning of all instruments and musical originality.

Actor and musician Jonathan Wilkes plays the role of 'Khashoggi' -- the chief of the secret police who answers to Killer Queen's every command.

"This show is all about legends," according to writer Ben Elton.

"We take the legend of Queen and create our own story of young kids battling the mighty corporations who want to suppress their individuality and their love of music.

"They need a hero who can help them in their struggle, and we have two -- the dreamer 'Galileo' and the sassy rock chick 'Scaramouche', " said Elton. "Guess who ends up winning?"

Tickets range from €40- €55.
