Snorkeler dies after getting into difficulty in water

A male snorkeler in his late thirties has died after getting into difficulty on Sunday evening.

Two people were in the water at Ardmore, Co Waterford at around 6pm.

The snorkelers got into difficulties in the water but one of them managed to make it to the coast where the alarm was raised.

The Coastguard were notified and the rescue helicopter located the man in the water and airlifted the man. 

Emergency aid was administered to the man on board the helicopter.

The man was brought to Waterford University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
