The blue army has turned out in force this evening to congratulate Jim Gavin's men on their historic All Ireland win.

Ardmhéara Mícheál MacDonncha and Dublin City Council are hosting the event in Smithfield this evening.

"This historic three in a row winning run is a marvellous achievement from one of the best county teams we have ever seen. My commiserations must go to the brave and talented Mayo team," Lord Mayor Mícheál Mac Donncha said ahead of the event.

The event comes after a day of celebration which saw the team visit both Crumlin and Temple Street children's hospitals.

As the celebrations continue it is likely to take some time for the significance of their third All Ireland title to hit home with the players.

"Three in a row. It's fantastic. It still hasn't sunk in yet," Eoghan O'Gara told Independent.ie on Monday.
