'Smash and grab' robbery of RTE van while news crews report on breaking story

An RTE satellite van was broken into as news crews were reporting on a breaking story this week.

The van was parked on a public road in Bluebell, Dublin when the front passenger window was smashed and a laptop was stolen from the front seat.

An RTE spokesperson confirmed that no other equipment was taken.

The broadcast team were posted at the Irish Farm Centre on Naas Road when the incident took place at approximately 2pm on Wednesday.

RTE were reporting from the centre on the breaking news story of the dramatic resignation of Irish Farmers' Association General Secretary Pat Smith and revelations about the senior post's salary.

The spokesperson for the broadcaster told Independent.ie that "proper protocol" was followed after the incident and the window was fixed later that day.

Gardai are not investigating the incident.
