Six to appear before court for drug distribution

Five men and one woman will appear before Gorey District Court in Co Wexford this morning in connection with the cultivation, distribution and sale of controlled substances.

Gardai have focused particular efforts in combating the drug trade in the South East through Operation Serpentine.

In association with regional support units, Gardai made a total of seven arrests yesterday morning after carrying out a number of searches.

One man was released without charge.

A significant number of the searches found large amount s of cannabis, including a man at a house in Longraigue in Coulksmills in Wexford was arrested for possession of one ounce of the drug; another man was arrested iin Killesk in possessions of €18,000 worth of harvested cannabis; another home was also foudn to have €40,000 worth.

One ounce of cocaine was seized at a house in Dunmaine, Co Wexford, where a man and woman were arrested.

Another man was arrested in New Ross with drug paraphernalia.

Finally, another home was found to have one kilogram of cannabis worth €20,000 and 3.5 kilograms of speed, with a street value of €50,000.

They will appear at court at 10:30am and range in age from the mid 20s to early 60s.
