Sinnott rejects children's referendum
Ex-MEP and disability rights campaigner Kathy Sinnott became the first high-profile opponent of the children's referendum yesterday.
Ms Sinnott said the Constitution already contains the power to protect children but the State has been "neglectful" of its obligations.
The former Munster MEP said the proposed amendment will put the State ahead of the parents in deciding on what is in a child's best interests
She said the Constitution already provides better protection as the State only steps in when the parent has failed.
Ms Sinnott said she also had concerns about how the proposed changes impact on children with special needs.
