Single HR system for State will cost €26m

A SINGLE system to manage the civil service's 35,000 staff is being set up at a cost of €26m.

The new Human Resources Shared Services Centre aims to cut the €85m annual cost of managing the state employees by 26pc, or €12.5m a year.

However, there will be a once-off cost of €26m to set it up, which the department said was in line with the cost of bringing in similar "shared services" in the public and private sectors.

It also plans to operate the civil service's performance-management system by computer.

Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin said the project would "result in the provision of a high-quality and professional HR function at a significantly reduced cost and free up staff to focus on providing key services".
