Members of Ireland's women's athletics team returned to a hero's welcome last night after winning silver medals at the Under-20s World Championships in Finland.

The team arrived at Dublin Airport from Tampere, Finland, where they delivered a spectacular performance in the track and field events to finish second in the 4x100m relay and the high jump.

Dozens of beaming family members, friends and supporters welcomed them home with raucous applause.

Among the team was 19-year-old sprinter Molly Scott, from Hacketstown, Co Carlow, who was greeted by her cousins Niamh and Orla Dunne.

"I'm feeling great," Molly said. "It was so far out of reach for such a small country, but we did it!"
